Letting Go of Old Narratives: Rewriting Your Story with Ketamine’s Help
We all carry stories about who we are—stories shaped by pain, protection, love, loss, and survival. Some of these stories help us understand ourselves. Others quietly hold us back, looping old patterns of self-doubt, fear, or shame.
One of the most powerful aspects of ketamine-assisted therapy is how it helps loosen our grip on these deeply ingrained narratives. Not by erasing your past—but by offering space to see it differently.
Why Our Stories Get Stuck
When we’ve lived through trauma or long-term emotional pain, the brain adapts in protective ways. Certain thought patterns—like “I’m not safe,” “I always mess things up,” or “I’m too much”—can become hardwired, even when they no longer fit the present moment. These patterns often show up in our bodies too: tight shoulders, shallow breath, a sense of bracing for impact.
In my work, I weave somatic therapy into the ketamine process because our bodies remember the old stories just as much as our minds do. By tuning into physical sensations during a session, we can start to soften the places where those stories are held.
What Ketamine Opens Up
Ketamine shifts the way we process information—it quiets the default mode network, the part of the brain tied to self-narrative and rumination. In that quieter space, we often gain perspective. Some clients describe it as “watching my story instead of being trapped in it.”
During a session, you might reconnect with younger parts of yourself, revisit an old memory with compassion, or feel the deep truth that you are not your pain. It’s not about forcing insights—it’s about creating a safe, supported space for them to emerge.
And that’s why having a therapist present matters. I'm there not to interpret your experience for you, but to help you ground in it, feel it in your body, and carry it forward into your life.
Integration: Where Real Change Happens
The experience itself is powerful, but the work doesn’t end there. What you do with those insights afterward is where transformation takes root. In our integration sessions, we’ll explore what came up—emotionally, physically, metaphorically—and how you want to live differently now.
Sometimes that looks like recognizing an old pattern and consciously choosing something new. Sometimes it’s as subtle as feeling a little softer in your body, a little more present in your life.
You Don’t Have to Keep Carrying the Same Old Story
Your story isn’t set in stone. With the right support, it’s possible to gently let go of what no longer serves you and reclaim the parts that do. Ketamine-assisted therapy isn’t a magic fix—but it can open a door. And you don’t have to walk through it alone.
