From Tension to Trust: Reclaiming Safety in Your Body with Somatic Work

When you've lived with chronic stress, trauma, or anxiety, it’s not just your mind that carries the weight—your body does too. Over time, we start to feel it in our shoulders, our gut, our breath. Muscles stay tight long after the danger has passed. The body doesn’t always get the memo that it’s safe now.

That’s where somatic work comes in.

Your Body Isn’t the Problem—It’s Trying to Protect You

I’ve worked with so many people who feel frustrated with their own body. “Why do I freeze like that?” “Why can’t I relax?” But here’s the truth: your body is doing exactly what it learned to do to survive. Tension, numbness, shutdown—these are all ways the nervous system tries to keep you safe when things feel overwhelming.

Somatic therapy helps us shift the relationship. Instead of fighting against our body, we start listening to it.

Building a Felt Sense of Safety

Somatic work is about learning to feel safe, from the inside out. That doesn’t mean thinking your way into safety—it means developing the ability to notice, track, and respond to what's actually happening in your body at the moment.

Together, we might explore:

  • What sensations come up when you speak your truth?

  • Can you feel the support of the ground beneath you?

  • What does it feel like to exhale fully?

These sound simple, but they’re powerful. Little by little, your body begins to trust that it doesn’t have to be on guard all the time.

Moving from Frozen to Flowing

Many of us carry tension because we’ve never had the space to fully feel or express what’s inside. In somatic work, we create that space. Sometimes it looks like movement. Sometimes stillness. Sometimes a single tear that’s been waiting years to fall.

There’s no one “right” way your healing should look. My job is to meet you where you are and help you feel into the places you may have had to shut down. We work at the pace your nervous system can handle—no force, no pushing.

Rebuilding Trust—In Yourself

As you reconnect with your body, you start to notice something incredible: you begin to trust yourself again. Your instincts. Your limits. Your yes and your no.

This is the heart of the work—not just feeling better, but feeling more like yourself. Embodied, present, and connected.
